THIS YEAR: Senior Ashkon Banihashemi enters his third year as a starting center midfielder … Is a vocal and emotional leader … Passes well and is skilled with both feet … Crosses the ball well from the outside.
 
2009 (junior): Was the only field player to start all 19 games for the Cougars ... Earned Daktronics-NAIA and GSAC Scholar-Athlete recognition … Scored 2 goals and notched 4 assists to contribute to Azusa Pacific’s GSAC-best offense that averaged 3.05 goals per game … Scored a late insurance goal, his first-ever in a conference game, in a 2-0 victory over Point Loma Nazarene ... Also had 4 assists on the season, including the game-winner of a 2-1 win over No. 3-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) ... Scored once and assisted another for a career-high 3 points in a 6-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer.
 
2008 (sophomore): Played 18 games and started 15 times ... Led the team and ranked second in the GSAC with 6 assists on the season, including the tying goal in a 1-1 season-opening draw against Bethel (Tenn.) … Assisted both goals the very next day in a 2-0 win over Graceland (Iowa).
 
2007 (freshman):  Appeared in 17 games as a key backup in the midfield … Took 7 shots on the year, putting 6 on goal … Scored a key insurance goal midway through the second half of the NAIA title game, a 2-0 victory over Concordia … Scored his first collegiate goal in just the second game of his career, a 7-0 win over Dominican.
 
HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 4 varsity seasons for head coach Mike Shimizu at West High in Torrance, Calif. … Earned All-CIF and Daily Breeze all-area recognition as a 2007 senior after scoring 14 goals and registering a pair of assists … Was a 2-time All-Bay League selection … Over his final 3 seasons, led the Warriors to a 24-2-4 league mark … Ran the half-mile and mile for the West varsity track team as a 2004 freshman.
 
PERSONAL:  Born July 20, 1989, in Torrance, Calif., to Ali and Carol Banihashemi … Has 1 younger brother, Arman (10) … Majoring in biology as part of a pre-med track with the goal of someday becoming a pediatrician.
