THIS YEAR: One of the most experienced players on the roster, senior Rachel Ahumada is expected to play a key role in the Cougar offensive attack ... Is known for her efficiency of play and intelligence about the game ... Has never missed a game in her APU career.

2024:  Appeared in all 29 games as a 2024 junior, emerging as an important offensive weapon for the Cougars ... Scored 47 points thanks to 24 goals and 23 assists ... Her .480 shooting clip ranked among the top 5 on the team ... Scored in 17 games and recorded 6 multi-goal games ... Best effort came in a 22-2 victory over UC Merced in which she accounted for 8 goals with 3 of her own while assisting on 5 others ... Followed that with a 2-goal, 3-assist performance in a 15-5 win over Fresno Pacific ... Had 2 goals and an assist in a 16-6 season-opening win over Cal State Monterey Bay.

2023:  Returned to water polo after a 1-year sit-out ... Appeared in all 27 games ... Registered 2 goals and 10 assists ... Her first Cougar goal came in a 7-5 loss to Cal Baptist in the Arizona State tournament ... Other goal came in a 17-6 Cougar win over Cal State Monterey Bay where she also assisted on 4 other goals ... Had 2 assists in a 17-15 Golden Coast victory over Cal Baptist ... Named to the ACWPC All-Academic Team in the "Excellent" category.

VMI: Played her 2021 freshman season at Virginia Military Institute where she scored 24 goals in 18 matches to go along with 21 assists ... Had a season-high 4 goals vs. La Sale ... Also recorded 5 hat tricks and 6 multi-assist games ... Led the Keydets with 31 steals and 35 drawn exclusions. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 4 years of varsity water polo for Head Coach Taylor Barrett at Bishop Alemany High in Mission Hills, Calif., where she was a 2-time All-CIF Southern Section honoree ... Is the Warriors' all-time leading scorer and also holds the record for most goals in a season (132) and game (13) ... Guided Bishop Alemany to 3 straight CIF playoff appearances ... Was a 3-time offensive MVP, and was once named team MVP ... On the club level, competed for Rose Bowl Water Polo Club and Santa Barbara 805.

PERSONAL:  Born Feb. 23, 2003, in Thousand Oaks, Calif., to Greg and Maria Ahumada ... Her older sister, Catherine, is a current member of the Cougar water polo team ... Is working on her master's degree in Applied Statistics and Data Science.
