Biography
THIS YEAR: Senior center Matt Reed has brought size and strength to the center position and has tremendously improved his rebounding and shooting skills . . . Has come off the bench in every game he has played . . . At Utah, scored 5 points and had 5 rebounds in a season high 22 minutes. . . Had 10 points and 4 rebounds against Hope International . . . In the Sea Warrior Classic, scored a career-best 16 points and had 8 boards in 17 minutes against Carthage (Wisc.) . . .Had 7 points and 7 rebounds in win at Cal Baptist . . . Had 6 rebounds in win at Hope International . . . Four times blocked 3 shots in a game 4 times, including in the finals of the State Farm Holiday Classic against CS Bakersfield . . . At Fresno Pacific, scored 8 points and grabbed a career best 10 rebounds.
JUNIOR (1998): Reed returned to the court after sitting out 2 seasons with knee injuries . . . Appeared in 18 games . . . Made first appearance in 31 months vs. La Sierra, registering 9 points and 3 rebounds in 13 minutes . . . Scored a career-high 12 points against Point Loma on 6-of-7 shooting while grabbing a career-high tying 4 rebounds in only 10 minutes . . . Followed that game with 10 points and a career-high 9 rebounds in GSAC Tournament first round win over Point Loma . . . Had 7 points, including a highlight-reel dunk at Utah over All-WAC performer Hanno Mottola . . . Scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the Cougars first round NAIA Tourney win over Huston-Tillotson (Tex.) . . . Named an NAIA Scholar Athlete after posting a 3.9 GPA.
SOPHOMORE (1997): Sat out the season but attended Azusa Pacific . . . Underwent second knee surgery.
REDSHIRT (1996): Redshirted the season while attending Azusa Pacific . . . Rehabilitated surgically repaired knee.
FRESHMAN (1995): As 1 of 3 freshmen on the team, averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 20 games . . . Scored a season-high 9 points in 15 minutes vs. Whittier in his collegiate debut . . . Four times collected 4 rebounds in a game . . . Collected all 6 blocked shots in the first 7 games he played.
HIGH SCHOOL: As a 1994 senior at Maranatha High, Reed was named All-Alpha League first team and was All-CIF Division IV . . . Averaged 14.1 points and had a career-bests of 28 points and 16 rebounds . . . As a 1993 junior he was named All-Alpha League second team . . . Played for Coach Dan Hamman.
PERSONAL: Reed graduated from Azusa Pacific with a degree in business administration . . . Named the Business Student of the Year . . . Working on a second degree in political science. . .Wants to go on to graduate school and pursue a master's degree in management . . . Hobbies include reading and watching movies, his favorite of which is Casablanca. . . Was born on July 17, 1976, in Pasadena, Calif. to Phil and Carol Reed.
