THIS YEAR: One of the quickest guards in the NAIA, junior Khalif Ford transfers to Azusa Pacific after a 2-year career at NCAA Division I Illinois State ... An outstanding point guard who is quite effective at running the offense ... Excellent at dribble penetration and difficult to stop ... Could be a very good defender.

ILLINOIS STATE: As a 2006 sophomore, started 16 of the Redbirds’ 26 games, averaging a team-high 2.6 assists to go along with 4.5 points and 23 minutes per outing ... Recorded a career-highs of 11 points (twice) and 8 assists (vs. Wichita State) ... As a 2005 freshman, played in 20 games, averaging 1 point, 1.1 assist and 9 minutes, but was hampered by hand and leg injuries.

PREP SCHOOL: Spent the 2004 season at Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, Maine, where he averaged 12.4 points, 6 assists and 5 steals for the 27-7 Wolverines ... Came out of Bridgton rated by Hoop Scoop Magazine as the 32nd best prep player in the nation.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 4 seasons of varsity basketball at Diamond Bar (Calif.) High, graduating as one of the top-rated point guards in Southern California ... During his 2003 senior season, averaged 16.2 points, 8 assists and 3 steals and was named the Sierra League MVP while leading the Brahmas to a 25-8 record ... As a 2002 junior, ranked No. 9 among junior point guards by Athlon Sports after averaging 23 points, 7 assists and 4 steals.

PERSONAL: Born Oct. 18, 1984, in Upland, Calif., to Lonnie and Donna Ford ... Majoring in political science.
