Biography

THIS YEAR:  A central figure in Azusa Pacific's offensive scheme, senior midfielder Gabriel Oropeza is expected to take a significant step forward now that he has a year in the Cougar system under his belt ... Rated a very good athlete who is one of the Cougars' most skilled players ... Also quite smart about the game ... Will push again for conference honors.

2023: Named All-PacWest third team after starting 15 of the Cougars' 17 games played ... Was second on the team with 5 goals and 10 points... Scored a goal in 4 straight PacWest games, 3 of which APU won, including the game-winner in the 59th minute of Azusa Pacific's 1-0 victory at Hawaii Pacific (Nov. 1) … Played 1,180 minutes on the pitch, fourth most on the team ... Ranked in the PacWest's Top-10 in  shots with 44 (4th) and shots on goal with 17 (9th).

CERRITOS:  Returned to soccer after sitting out 2 seasons because of COVID and spent his 2022 sophomore season at Cerritos College where he scored 7 goals and assisted in 7 others while appearing in 23 games, 20 of which he came off the bench ... Had a hand in 5 of the Falcons' 7 goals by scoring twice and assisting 3 times in a 7-0 victory ... Came off the bench to score 2 goals in his first game at Cerritos, a season-opening 6-0 verdict over College of the Desert ... Helped lead Cerritos to a 21-1-2 record and the South Coast Conference championship ... Falcons advance to the finals of the CCCAA Southern California regional championship game, suffering its only a loss of the season, a 1-0 verdict to conference rival Mt. SAC, which they had already beaten twice during the season.

HOPE INTERNATIONAL:  Played his 2019 freshman season at NAIA member Hope International in Fullerton, Calif. ... Appeared in all 18 games for the 12-6 Royals, started 11 ... Scored 4 goals and assisted  on another 4 ... Scored a goal and assisted on another in his first collegiate game, a 13-0 HIU victory over Multnomah ... Scored 2 goals in a 7-1 victory over Providence Christian ... His older brother, Hugo, also played on the same HIU team. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 4 seasons of varsity soccer for Head Coach Frank Sandoval at Banning High in Wilmington, Calif. ... Led the Pilots to a pair of Marine League championships in his 4-year prep career ... Led the Pilots to the CIF L.A. City playoffs all 4 years ... As a 2019 senior, scored the game's only goal in Banning's 1-0 victory over Smidt Tech in the quarterfinals of the L.A. City Section Division III quarterfinals ... Played for Rush, Exiles and Galaxy South Bay club teams.
