2025-26 Season Analysis
DJ Sanders emerged as a steady, efficient contributor in limited minutes, averaging 7.8 points in just 16.8 minutes per game while shooting a strong 42.2% from the field and 75.7% at the free-throw line. He provided reliable scoring punch off the bench and showed the ability to impact games without needing high usage, particularly during conference play. As his role expanded late in the season, Sanders flashed growth as a composed scorer who capitalized on opportunities within the flow of the offense
Prior to APU
DJ joins the Cougars after spending time at California State University East Bay. Before his collegiate career, he was a standout athlete at Bonita Vista High School in San Diego, where he played four years of varsity basketball for the Barons under Head Coach Dean Curry.
During his high school career, Sanders was a decorated athlete:
- Championship Pedigree: Led the Barons to a CIF Championship during his senior campaign.
- Individual Honors: Two-time All-League selection and two-time Basketball MVP. He was named Bonita Vista's Athlete of the Year as a senior.
- Academic Excellence: Earned the President's Education Award, Distinguished Athlete Award, and Outstanding Academic Excellence honors in his final year.
- Club Experience: Played for Magic & Norman Powell Elite under Coach Norman Powell.
Personal
Born on July 26, 2003, to Adrianne Sanders. He has a twin brother named DM Sanders. Beyond basketball, DJ was involved in the Black Student Union in high school. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as visiting the mall and the beach.
