THIS YEAR: One of the GSAC’s top players, senior guard Demario Butler is an impact player ... Extremely explosive with tremendous quickness … Is excellent in the key, and in particular in the air around the basket … Deceptively strong … Good ball handler and can break down defenses off the dribble but runs the court very well and is outstanding in the open court … Can play as many as 4 different positions ... Has improved his perimeter shot ... Could push for All-America honors.
2006: Named All-GSAC first team as a 2006 junior after leading Azusa Pacific to its second 30-win campaign in the past 3 years and its third in the past 6 seasons ... Led the Cougars in scoring (15.1 avg.), field goal percentage (.552) and steals (1.7 avg.) ... Was second in rebounding (5.1 avg.) and assists (2.3 avg.) ... Started 35 games for the Cougars ... Best outing was a 25-point, 9-rebound, 3-assist effort in the Cougars’ 81-69 victory at Vanguard ... Also tallied a trio of 23-point games as well, including his first-meeting ever against arch-rival, leading the Cougars to a 9-point victory over the No. 21-ranked Eagles ... Held The Master’s Giovannia St. Amant, a 50% shooter on the season, to just 10-for-30 shooting in 2 Cougar victories over the Mustangs ... Had 18 points and 10 rebounds for his only double-double of the season in a NAIA Tournament first-round victory over defending national champion John Brown.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Put together 2 outstanding seasons at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz. … As a 2005 sophomore received NJCAA Division I All-American honor mention after averaging 16 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2 steals while shooting an impressive 62% from the floor … Guided AWC to a 31-2 record, the No. 1-ranking in the final NJCAA poll, the conference title, the region championship and the 2005 NJCAA national tournament … Helped lead the Matadors to a 2-year record of 52-15 … As a 2004 freshman averaged 9.5 points while shooting 61% from the floor … Put together a breakout game late in the season in which he scored 29 points against national power Yavapai in the NJCAA regional playoffs.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played 2 seasons of varsity basketball at Rancho High in Las Vegas, Nev. … As a 2003 senior, averaged 18.7 points (fifth-best in Las Vegas) and 9.5 rebounds … Twice named all-city, including first-team recognition and city co-MVP honors by LVPrepSports.com … Also lettered in football (wide receiver).
