Matt Micek enters his third year as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, where he is an integral part of the program's individual skill development efforts under head coach Justin Leslie. With Micek on the coaching staff the past two years, the Cougars have claimed consecutive Pacific West Conference regular-season titles and advanced to NCAA Division II postseason play both years.

The 2016-17 season will be Micek's 20th year of coaching at the high school and collegiate level. He joined Azusa Pacific after two years (2012-14) as an assistant coach at Oak Park High School, which won Tri-Valley League and CIF championships during his time there. His previous collegiate coaching experience includes one season as head coach for San Jose Christian College (1999-2000), where he oversaw an 18-game improvement from the previous year, posting a 21-11 record while guiding his team to the NSCAA Final Four.

He also served as an assistant coach for one season at Ventura College (2011-12), five seasons at Biola (1994-99), plus single seasons at Cal Poly Pomona (1993-94) and Concordia (1992-93).

Micek played collegiately at Colorado Christian, graduating in 1987 with a degree in mathematics. In 1990, he competed for an Athletes in Action team in the Philippines. Micek has two children, Alexa and Cole, and he teaches courses in Azusa Pacific's mathematics department.
