Matt Micek enters his fifth year as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, where he is an integral part of the program's individual skill development efforts under head coach Justin Leslie. The 2018-19 season will be Micek's 25th year of coaching at the high school and collegiate level. He joined Azusa Pacific after two years (2012-14) as an assistant coach at Oak Park High School, which won Tri-Valley League and CIF championships during his time there. His previous collegiate coaching experience includes one season as head coach for San Jose Christian College (1999-2000), where he oversaw an 18-game improvement from the previous year, posting a 21-11 record while guiding his team to the NSCAA Final Four.

He also served as an assistant coach for one season at Ventura College (2011-12), five seasons at Biola University (1994-99), plus single seasons at Cal Poly Pomona (1993-94) and Concordia University (1992-93).

Micek played collegiately at Colorado Christian University, graduating with a degree in mathematics. In 1994, he began Improving Your Game, a basketball skill development business. Micek has two children, Alexa (current pro beach volleyball player) and Cole (student-athlete at Univ of St. Francis), and he teaches Statistics in Azusa Pacific's mathematics department.
