Garrett Ohara is in the second year of his second stint at Azusa Pacific, having served as a Cougar assistant coach in 1993 and 1994. And the Cougars couldn’t be happier.  In Ohara’s 3 seasons associated with the Cougars, Azusa Pacific has enjoyed its winningest campaigns, collecting 30 wins in 1993, 29 in 1994 and 34 in 1998.
       
Ohara is the Director of Athletic Development, and is in charge of the fundraising for the Azusa Pacific athletic program. 
       
Among his varied responsibilities, Ohara is also in charge of the men’s basketball academic support program.
       
For 3 seasons, Ohara was the head coach of the boy’s varsity team at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.  In his initial season, he led the Tartans to a 22-5 record, the Academy League title, and the CIF Division V semis. 
       
In his brief high school tenure, Ohara’s teams advanced to the CIF playoffs each year, and he was awarded Academy League Coach of the Year honors in his first season.
       
A 1988 Westmont grad, Ohara gained valuable experience as a graduate assistant in 1989 under longtime Warrior coach Chet Kammerer.  In 1990, he moved to the Bay Area and taught at San Ramon Valley Christian Academy in Danville, Calif., instructing the girl’s middle school basketball team and also coaching the San Ramon High School girl’s junior varsity basketball team. 
       
In past summers, Ohara  has worked numerous basketball camps, including ones at UCLA, Pepperdine, and for GSAC coaches Greg Marshall of Concordia and Bill Westphal of Point Loma.  He is also a high school basketball official.
