THIS YEAR: After playing sparingly in 1998, senior swingman Brian Gianello looks to give the Cougars a boost at both the 2-guard and small forward . . . Very athletic and a good shooter.
1998: Sat out the first 22 games while establishing eligibility . . . Scored 2 points against Fresno Pacific and Point Loma Nazarene . . . Had 2 assists against Point Loma . . . Had 1 steal in his first game of the season against Fresno Pacific.
NAIA TOURNEY: Was a member of the 1998 GSAC champion Cougar team that advanced to the NAIA Semifinals, but did not suit up for the Cougars' 4 games.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 years for Steve Coccimiglio at Diablo Valley College in Concord, Calif . . . . Averaged 12 points as a 1996 sophomore to help lead his team to a Coast Conference championship . . . As a freshman, connected on 9-of-11 treys in first playoff game . . . Guided the Vikings to a 49-15 record during his 2 seasons.
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Campolindo High School in Moraga, Calif., from which he graduated in 1993 . . . Injured during the preseason as a senior and sat out all but 6 games . . . Averaged 22 points and 9 rebounds in those 6 games . . . Team went on to win the Foothill Athletic League and advance to the semifinals of the state tournament . . . As a junior, named MVP of the league, averaging 15.8 points and 8 rebounds.
PERSONAL: Born Aug. 28, 1974, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., to Richard and Laura Gianello . . . Is 1 of 3 children . . . Psychology major . . . Spent summer as a summer camp counselor at for high school students.
