THIS YEAR: The most-experienced returnee in the GSAC, senior Brett Michel is the leader of a retooled Cougar squad … A smart player with a deft shooting touch who may push for all-conference honors ... One of the GSAC’s best perimeter shooters and one who does all the little things to get the job done … A near complete player when it comes to scoring, defense, rebounding and passing … His 159 3-pointers are second on Azusa Pacific’s all-time chart … Has never missed a game, appearing in 108 consecutive contests.

2003: Started all 34 games as a 2003 junior, averaging 9.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists … Had 16 double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 20 in a victory over top-ranked and previously undefeated Concordia … Had 6 or more rebounds in 11 different games … Averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds in 20 GSAC contests.

2002: Was 1 of just 4 Cougars to appear in all 36 games, starting 27 … Averaged 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists … Got off to a rough start, shooting just 34% (52-for-154) through the first 24 games, but picked up the pace over the last third of the season, shooting at a 49% clip (47-for-95), which included a 42% effort at the 3-point arc … Averaged 11.6 points over the final 12 games, which included a career-high 23 points (8-for-13) in a victory over No. 21-ranked Westmont in the semifinals of the GSAC Postseason Tournament … Averaged 13 points in 4 NAIA Tournament games.

2001: Was arguably the top freshman in the GSAC during the 2001 season, averaging 8.8 points and 3.6 rebounds a game … Appeared in all 38 games, starting 24, including the final 23 of the season … Led the GSAC and was third in the NAIA in 3-point shooting (.468) … His 72 treys rank ninth among Azusa Pacific’s single season bests … Scored a season-high 19 in a 100-74 victory over No. 7-ranked Christian Heritage … Was extremely impressive in a 90-79 victory over Westmont in the GSAC Tourney semifinals, tallying 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals … Other season bests include 8 rebounds (vs. CS Los Angeles) and 5 3-pointers (twice) … Made at least 1 trey in 34 games (and multiple treys in 20 games), including the final 11 of the season … Could spark the offense in an instant, as evidenced by his 19 points in 19 minutes vs. San Jose Christian and 12 points in 17 minutes vs. Atlanta Christian … Came up big in his first-ever GSAC game, scoring 14 points at Vanguard, nailing a 3-pointer to send the game into OT and then hitting another trey with 26 seconds left to ice the victory.
