Biography

THIS YEAR: One of 5 returning starters to the Cougar offensive front, senior Steven Mejia is the veteran of the a talented and strong corps of linemen … Fundamentally sound and a strong run blocker … During his 24-game Azusa Pacific career, has played all 3 offensive line positions (center, tackle, guard). 

2005: Started all 9 games he played as a 2005 junior at right tackle … Missed only the Sacramento State game with a slight injury … Recovered a fumble in the end zone for his first-ever score in the Cougars’ 34-31 victory at Valley City State. 

2004: Appeared in all 14 of the Cougars’ games, starting 9, primarily at guard. 

2003: Missed the entire season with a leg injury suffered just before the season-opener … Had just won out a starting berth at guard when he sustained the injury. 

2002: Appeared in 3 games during his 2002 redshirt freshman campaign … Came off the bench in the final 2 contests, including a nail-biting 20-14 victory over Gustavus Adolphus in the season finale. 

2001: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at La Costa Canyon High in Carlsbad, Calif., playing 2 seasons of varsity football as a center for the Mavericks … Named All-Avocado League honorable mention and was named to the Alex Spanos All-Star Game … Served as team captain during his 2000 senior season. 

PERSONAL: Son of Andrew (fire captain) and Mary (accountant) Mejia … Has 1 brother (James) and a sister (Jennifer) … His dad played football at Southern Oregon University … Graduated in spring of 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in business.
