Biography

THIS YEAR: Once again sophomore Steve Hebbard will be asked to serve in a reserve role, backing up fullback James Hartford. However, Hebbard is an emerging offensive presence and should see more playing time this year . . . Has great skills and terrific promise . . . A natural replacement for Hartford . . . Strong and burly . . . Does not go down easy . . . May be in the same backfield with Hartford from time-to-time to give the Cougars a beefy running game.

1996: Appeared in 9 games as a 1996 freshman but carried the ball just once, gaining 2 yards in the season-finale vs. Chapman . . . Returned a kickoff vs. Cal Lutheran 8 yards.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played on the first football team at the newly-created Centennial High in Bakersfield, Calif. . . . As a 1995 senior rushed for over 650 yards, averaging 6.5 yards a carry and was the lead blocker for the Golden Hawk tailbacks that amassed over 1,800 yards rushing . . . Named All-South Sequoia League second team after helping the Golden Hawks to a 9-2 record and their first-ever CIF playoff appearance . . . Was also named all-area honorable mention . . . As a 1995 junior was voted team captain of Centennial's first-ever varsity squad . . . Rushed for 450 yards (5.0 avg./carry) on a 4-6 team comprised of all juniors and sophomores . . . As a 1994 sophomore, played on Centennial's first-ever football team which went 10-0 on junior varsity level competition . . . Also lettered 3 years in track & field (shot put).

PERSONAL: Born Oct. 1, 1977, in Bakersfield, Calif. . . . Is second of 4 children born to Jerry Hebbard . . . Majoring in political science with a minor in theology . . . An outstanding student, graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA . . . Highly involved in his home church in Bakersfield . . . Enjoys lifting weights and reading sports autobiographies.
