THIS YEAR: Perhaps the Cougars’ top returning defender, senior linebacker Scott Ellis is a veteran player with 32 collegiate games to his credit ... Leader of the Cougar defense … Has good speed and strength for his size ... Quite savvy about the game ... Is a 2006 Football Gazette Preseason All-American second team pick. 

2005: Started all 10 games as a 2005 junior … Was second on the team with 92 tackles, trailing only All-American Steve Holte, Azusa Pacific’s all-time leading tackler … Collected 5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble … Best showing came in a victory over Willamette when he tallied a career-high 16 tackles (3 solo) and forced a fumble that the Cougars eventually turned into a TD and a 28-0 lead in the second quarter … Also had 12 tackles (1 solo) in the NAIA playoff game vs. Montana Tech … Overall, recorded 9 or more tackles in 6 games. 

2004: Started all 14 games as a true sophomore, tallying 83 tackles, third best on the team … Best showing came in the season-opener vs. San Diego when he recorded a season-high 12 take downs … Also had 10 tackles vs. NAIA champion Carroll (career-high 6 solo) and Eastern Oregon … His first collegiate sack (vs. Valley City State) also produced a fumble and an eventual touchdown in Azusa Pacific’s 68-6 victory. 

2003: Was 1 of 3 true freshmen to play for the Cougars … Appeared in 8 games, all off the bench … Tallied 11 tackles, including 4 vs. Chapman. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 2 seasons of varsity football for coach Mike Vogt at Buchanan High in Clovis, Calif. … Named All-Tri-City Athletic Conference as a 2002 senior when he tallied 99 tackles, including 9 QB sacks, while leading the Bears to a 9-2 record ... Also blocked 2 punts ... Named to the city-county all-star game ... Also lettered 1 year in wrestling.
