THIS YEAR: One of 3 good 20-year olds vying for time at tight end, redshirt sophomore Rory Carlton is a promising receiver who is also rated as an excellent blocker … Moves very well for his size … Will battle Herrera and Burgan and should see time in the Cougars' 2-tight end set. 

2002: Appeared in 3 games, including the final 2 of the season, but did not have a reception … Was slowed at the outset of the season by an injury. 

2001: Redshirted the 2001 season while attending Azusa Pacific.

 HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 years of varsity football for head coach Jay Madden at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colo. … Lettered at both defensive end and tight end … As a 2000 senior, named team offensive MVP after leading the Eagles to an 8-4 record when they were expected to go 2-8 after moving up a classification to 5A … Defeated eventual state champ Columbine High during the regular season … Was a member of a young Eagle program (started in 1996) that went 27-8 during his 3-year varsity career.
