Biography

THIS YEAR: One of 2 former Rancho Santiago players on the Cougar offensive line (Jon Puente is the other), senior Robert Purcell is the leader of a very experienced and talented offensive line . . . Excellent player who is quite strong . . . Is a vital element of the Cougars' run plans and pass protection.

1996: Was the emotional leader of a completely revamped offensive line . . . Started all 9 games he played . . . Missed one game because of a sprained ankle.

TRACK & FIELD: Competed on Azusa Pacific's nationally-recognized track & field team . . . Recorded season bests of 46-0 (shot), 128-8 (discus) and and 140-7 (hammer).

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 seasons at Rancho Santiago Community College in Santa Ana, Calif. . . . Played sparingly as a 1994 freshman on a Dons team that won the Mission Conference title with a 9-2 record . . . As a 1995 sophomore was a starter on the offensive front as the Dons posted a 6-5 record . . . Also lettered in track & field, competing in the shot and discus.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played football for Bill Brown at Century High in Santa Ana, Calif. . . . Also lettered in track & field.

PERSONAL: Born Oct. 22, 1975, in Santa Ana, Calif., to Robert and Saniula Purcell . . . Involved with his church and Special Olympics . . . Would like to go into law enforcement.
