Biography

THIS YEAR: An outstanding athlete, junior Ricky Burgan is a key figure in Azusa Pacific's offensive scheme... Has very good hands and speed for his size … Will see plenty of action in the Cougars' 2-tight end set and can line-up as a wide receiver as well. 

2003: Appeared in all 10 games, starting 4 … Collected 6 receptions for 42 yards, including a career-high 3 grabs vs. Humboldt State. 

2002: Appeared in all 9 games, starting 1 (vs. Rocky Mountain) … Had 5 catches for 49 yards and none was bigger than his second collegiate catch, a 16-yarder for his first-ever collegiate TD, a game-winner in the third overtime at Pacific Lutheran. 

2001: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific where he moved to tight end after a prep career at wide receiver. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-year standout receiver at Redlands (Calif.) High where he was a 2-time All-Citrus Belt League honoree … As a 1999 senior, collected All-San Bernardino County recognition after tallying 27 receptions and 500 yards … Best game came against Rialto High, collecting 5 receptions for 103 yards and a TD … Led the Terriers to back-to-back 8-3 seasons during his junior and senior seasons … Also played 2 seasons of varsity basketball (All-Citrus Belt League second team as a senior) and lettered 1 season in track & field (long jump and high jump). 

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 24, 1982, to John (CHP officer) and Christina (nurse) Burgan in San Dimas, Calif. … Has a younger brother (Curtis) and sister (Theresa) ... His father, John, was a running back on the 1975 Azusa Pacific football team … Majoring in physical education.
