Biography

THIS YEAR: A fireball of a player, senior Orlando Sanchez figures to back-up Peder Moore but nonetheless will see plenty of playing time … Is a hard-hitting, hard-working player who can deliver quite a hit … Has good speed and is relentless in his approach. 

2003: Transferred to Azusa Pacific late in the summer of 2003 and quickly moved into a significant reserve role … Appeared in 9 of the Cougars' 10 games, coming off the bench in all of them … Registered 13 tackles, including 3 for loss … Had 5 tackles, including 1 for loss and half a sack, in the win over Chapman … Blocked a field goal against Southern Oregon to set up Azusa Pacific's go-ahead touchdown … Recovered a fumble that led to a TD vs. La Verne. 

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 seasons of fullback at Pasadena (Calif.) City College … As a 2001 sophomore was a key member of a 10-1 Lancer squad that won the South County Bowl and finished the season ranked among the top 5 in the nation … As a 2000 freshman played his first season ever at fullback … Also lettered 1 season in soccer and played in the state junior college championship game … Signed with Iona but did not play the 2002 season. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Put together an outstanding prep career at La Canada (Calif.) High … Was a 3-time All-Rio Hondo League first-team honoree, earning conference defensive MVP recognition as a 1999 senior … Also earned All-CIF that year while being named all-city first team by the Pasadena Star News … Was team defensive MVP as a junior … As a sophomore, set the school season record for tackles (115) and sacks (19). 

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 5, 1982, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Armando (owns construction company) and Blanca (teacher) Sanchez … Has 1 brother (Armando) and a sister (Amanda) … Majoring in communication … Would like to eventually study law as well … Annually works as a volunteer with the Special Olympics … Also competes in body building and won the 2004 NPC western states championship (heavyweight) in June.
