THIS YEAR: One of the Cougars' top returning defensive players, Mike Cory is Azusa Pacific's first 4-year starter in the defensive backfield … Great athlete with valuable experience … Has good speed and is noted for his tenacity … Will push for postseason honors.

2000: Started all 10 games and finished third on the team in tackles (61) ... Earned NAIA All-American honorable mention after setting a school record with 17 pass deflections … Recorded a career-high 11 tackles to go along with 2 pass break-ups vs. Menlo … Also had 10 tackles in a win over Humboldt State … His lone interception came against Western Oregon.

1999: Appeared in all 12 games and was fifth on the team with a career-high 57 tackles … Had his best game as a Cougar vs. Western Oregon in which he tallied a season-high 9 tackles (6 solos), broke up 2 pass attempts and snagged his only interception of the season, returning it 18 yards … Also had 8 tackles (6 solo) vs. Doane in the opening round of the NAIA playoffs … Led the team with 9 pass deflections … Attempted punt returns for the first time in his career, returning 3 early in the season for 12 yards.

1998: Came to Azusa Pacific as a walk-on and earned a starting berth from the outset, becoming the first true-freshman in over 20 years to start in the Cougar defensive secondary ... Was ninth on the team with 50 tackles ... Topped the squad with 6 pass deflections and was second with 4 interceptions ... Tallied 163 return yards on his 4 picks, returning 3 of them for 53, 53 and 57 yards ... . Returned 1 for a TD vs. Occidental ... Enjoyed his best games vs. Olivet Nazarene ... Tallied a season-high 8 tackles (all solo) vs. ONU during the regular season ... Then may have preserved the Cougars' national title with an interception at the goal line that he returned a season-long 57 yards on the final play of the first half, keeping ONU from going up 21-7 at the time ... Had 7 tackles, 2 deflections and an interception at Hardin-Simmons, just his fourth collegiate game ... In the 4 NAIA playoff games had 15 tackles (9 solo), 1 interception, 1 tackle for loss and 1 fumble recovery, which came on the opening kick off of the opening game vs. Taylor, leading to a Cougar TD less than 2 minutes into the playoffs.

TRACK & FIELD: Competes on Azusa Pacific's national power track & field team, qualifying for both the NAIA Indoor and Outdoor Championship Meets in the long jump as a freshman and sophomore ... Has career-best marks of 23-10 in the long jump, 11.06 in the 100m and 22.86 in the 200m ... Earned All-American recognition in 1999 when the Cougars' 4x100m relay finished fifth at the outdoor championships.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-year starter for state power Roseburg (Ore.) High ... As a 1995 sophomore and 1996 junior played on a pair of 14-0 state championship teams ... Was a 2-time All-Southern Oregon Conference honoree at cornerback ... As a 1997 senior played tailback and earned all-state second team recognition after rushing for 1,324 yards on 134 carries (9.9 avg.) while scoring 19 TDs ... Also had 4 interceptions including one he returned for a TD ... Named team MVP for the 8-3 Indians ... Also lettered in track & field and was state long jump champ as a junior (22-4) and runner-up as a senior (22-9).
