Biography

THIS YEAR: The Cougars' place-kicker the past 3 seasons, senior Matt Ryburn figures once again to be a prominent figure in the offense … Is currently eighth on Azusa Pacific's all-time scoring list with 124 points … Has converted 85 PATs, just 9 off the school-record 94 held by Jim Daichendt. 

2002: Was third on the team in scoring with 41 points, 32 of which came off PATs … Struggled at the outset of the season, making just 1 of his first 6 FG attempts, having 3 blocked in the process, but finished the campaign by making his last 2 of the year, which proved to be the difference in the victory over Gustavus Adolphus … Longest attempt was a 42-yarder vs. Whittier … Had 7 kickoffs go for touchbacks in the first 3 games. 

2001: Finished the season second on the team in scoring with 39 points, converting 5-of-11 field goal attempts and 24-of-27 PATs … Made the bulk of his field goals from inside 40 yards … Set his career high field-goal of 38 yards in the second quarter of the 31-12 victory over Whittier, and then proceeded to break that short-lived mark 3 games later, with a 43-yard bomb in a 23-12 victory over Menlo. 

2000: Was second on the team in scoring with 44 points, converting 5-of-8 field goal attempts and 29-of-37 PATs … Was 4-for-4 inside 30 yards … Connected on a season-best and eventual game-winning 36-yarder with 7 minutes left in the Cougars' season-opening 24-23 victory at San Diego … Ended the season strong, making his final 4 FG attempts … Tied the school single-game record by converting 8 PATs in a 56-30 victory over Redlands. 

1999: Redshirted the 1999 season, attending classes and backing up All-American Mike Spellman. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in football (3 seasons), soccer (3), volleyball (1) and baseball (1) at Village Christian High in Sun Valley, Calif. … Kicked a career-best 47-yard field goal during his senior campaign … Hit a 43-yard FG in the final seconds to lift Village to a CIF first round win over West Valley High in 1996 … The following week connected on a game-winning PAT in OT to give the Crusaders a quarterfinal win over Big Bear High … Was a 3-time All-Alpha League pick in soccer and once in volleyball. 

PERSONAL: Born April, 20, 1981, in Glendale, Calif., to Bill and Susan Ryburn … Has 1 sister (Kristen) … Spent 5 weeks in Japan on an exchange program … Majoring in physical education … Member of Azusa Pacific's men's volleyball club program.
