Biography

THIS YEAR: One of the Cougars’ top offensive threats, senior Marcus Lampkin is looking to build on an excellent 2005 season and perhaps push for postseason honors … A quick back who slashes well through the line … Very good in the open field … Teams with Alex Peltier to give the Cougars a unique and effective 1-2 punch in the ground game … Has 6 100-yard rushing games in his career … If he can become the seventh Cougar ever to record a 1,000-yard rushing season he’ll move into the all-time top 5 among Cougar rushers. 

2005: Played in all 10 games as a 2005 junior, starting 9 … Led the team in rushing with 926 yards on 185 carries, averaging 92.6 yard a game and 5.0 yards a carry … Was also third on the team in receiving with 26 catches for 264 yards … Led the team with 8 TDs scored (7 rushing) … Tallied 6 100-yard rushing games, including 5 straight in mid-season … Tied Cougar legend Christian Okoye’s single-game record with 248 rushing yards (40 carries) in the Cougars’ come-from-behind victory at Valley City State (S.D.) to clinch in NAIA playoff berth … Rushed for 100 yards and 2 TDs on 15 carries in the win over Willamette … In the win over Western New Mexico, tallied 5 receptions and rushed for 111 yards on just 15 carries, and had a 61-yard run, the longest of his career … Led the Cougars to only their second win ever at Humboldt State by rushing for 112 yards on 23 carries while catches 5 passes for 47 yards. 

2004: Enjoyed a breakthrough season as a walk-on, rushing for 406 yards on 88 carries (4.6 avg.) with 2 TDs … Appeared in 11 of the Cougars’ 14 games, all off the bench, and was third on the team in rushing … Rushed for 50 or more yards in 4 games, including a season-best 106 yards on just 13 carries (8.2 avg.) with a 40-yard TD run in the Cougars’ NAIA quarterfinal victory over No. 1-ranked and previously undefeated Sioux Falls … Also scored on a 12-yard run early in the fourth quarter to snap a 21-21 tie and propel the Cougars to a victory over Western New Mexico. 

LEWIS & CLARK: Played his 2002 freshman season at Lewis & Clark College, an NCAA Division III school in Portland, Ore. … Appeared in all 9 games for the 3-6 Pioneers, rushing for 132 yards on 47 carries (2.8 avg.) … Had 7 receptions for 106 yards (15.1 avg.) and 1 TD … His best showing came in a 34-0 victory over Macalester when he rushed for 31 yards on 5 carries and caught 1 pass for a 29-yard TD play. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 seasons of varsity football at 29 Palms (Calif.) High for head coach Ernie Martinez … As a 2001 senior, led the Wildcats to a 10-3 record with 2,159 rushing yards and 29 TDs … Rushed for a career-high 308 yards and scored 6 TDs in 29 Palms’ 41-20 victory over Notre Dame High … Rushed for another 290 yards on 20 carries and scored 3 TDs (1 by interception return and another via kickoff return) in a victory over Oceanview High … Rushed for 214 yards and 3 TDs in a CIF quarterfinal victory over Mojave … 4 times rushed over 200 yards in a game … On defense, had 5 interceptions … Named All-CIF first team, all-county and Los Angeles Times All-Desert-Mountain Region … Was a 3-time All-De Anza League first team honoree … Earned all-league honors in track & field and was a member of the school-record 4x100-meter relay. 

PERSONAL: Son of Adrienne Acosta who holds the 29 Palms High School shot put record … Has 1 brother (Joe) and a sister (Danielle).
