Biography

THIS YEAR: Two-year starter Keith Ornelas, who has played in all 24 games for the Cougars, returns as one of the top offensive linemen in the NAIA … Quite strong … Rates well in run blocking. 

2005: Like fellow returning linemates Steven Mejia and Cameron Nazemzadeh, started all 10 games for the Cougars as a 2005 junior. 

2004: Started all 14 games … Key reason why the Cougars averaged 171 rushing yards over the final 5 games of the season (140 avg. in the first 9 games). 

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played his 2003 sophomore season for state power Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., earning All-Mission Conference first team for the 10-2 Mounties … Also named offensive lineman of the year for Mt. SAC. 

CALIFORNIA: Signed with Pac-10 member Cal-Berkeley out of high school and spent 1 year in the Golden Bears’ program, redshirting his 2001 season. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-time Cal-Hi all-state honoree at powerhouse Loyola High in Los Angeles … Also earned All-Del Rey League while helping guide the Cubs to back-to-back league titles … Loyola went 29-8-1 during Ornelas’ 3 seasons in the varsity program, which included a 12-2 mark during Ornelas’ 2000 senior season when the Cubs advanced to the CIF championship game … Started in the Cal-Florida Bowl game … Also competed in track & field (shot put). 

PERSONAL: Son of Abel and Sheri Ornelas … Has 1 sister (Rebecca) … Plays the drums.
