Biography

THIS YEAR: A Cougar with a most compelling life story, senior Karim Mikhail is the most experienced lineman on the offensive front. . . After 3 seasons at left tackle, is moving to left guard this year, a more natural position for him . . . Has good feet and lower back strength, which makes him a good base blocker.

1997: Started all 9 games at left tackle.

1996: Started all 10 games at left tackle . . . Was one of the key reasons Cougar QBs were sacked just 11 times all season . . . Was an intricate part of the Cougar offense that averaged 409.1 yards a game.

1995: Played in 4 games in a reserve role at center.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Montebello (Calif.) High where he played just 2 seasons of football . . . Earned All-CIF first team honors during his 1994 senior season . . . Led the Oilers to a 10-2 record and the second round of the CIF playoffs . . . Was a 2-time All-Almont League selection for play on the offensive line . . . Also played defensive tackle both seasons . . . Was a member of 2 Almont League championship teams . . . Did not play football until his 1993 junior year . . . Decided to try out for the team upon the encouragement of an uncle . . . A good student with a 3.2 GPA, was named scholar-athlete of the football program.

PERSONAL: Born Oct. 10, 1976, in Cairo, Egypt . . . Moved to the United States in 1991 with his parents, Fouad and Rawya, to gain better religious opportunities . . . His father gave up a company vice-president's job and his mother a television production job to come to the United States . . . Fouad now works at a gas station in East Los Angeles to support the family . . . "I have no words to thank my parents for what they gave up for me and my sister," said Karim.
