2019 (junior): Named an All-GNAC Second Team defense honoree, his second year as an All-GNAC player… Olave tallied 3 interceptions on the season, tying him with teammate Ben Sukut for first on the team and fourth in the GNAC… He also recorded a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick… Olave tallied multiple tackles in all 10 games, totaling 37 on the season… Named a GNAC All-Academic honoree.
2018 (sophomore): GNAC first team DB… Appeared in all 12 games… led team with five interceptions… had two interceptions and pass break up in win over Simon Fraser Sept. 8 (GNAC Defensive Player of the Week)… season-high six tackles in win at Western Oregon Sept. 15
2017 (freshman): Came off the bench in ten of the Cougars’ 11 games, playing both special teams and defense … Recorded 16 tackles (11 solo) to go along with five pass deflections, second best on the team, and two interceptions … Both of his interceptions came in two different games vs. Simon Fraser, one setting up a Cougar TD, and the other coming at the goal line to prevent an SFU TD … In the second meeting with the Clan, tallied a season high five tackles (three solo) … Collected three tackles, all solo, in a season-ending victory over Colorado Mesa.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a two-year standout for head coach Lee Price at Eastlake High in Chula Visa, Calif., before transferring to Mission Hills High in San Marcos, Calif., where he sat out his 2016 senior year to comply with a CIF transfer ruling … Did get to play in the Alxx Spanos All-Star Football Classic and the East County All-Star game following the 2016 season … As a 2015 junior at Eastlake High, was a two-way standout in 11 games for the 5-6 Titans, rushing for 323 yards on 39 carries (8.3 avg.) with two TDs, collecting six receptions, five of which went for TDs, for 188 yards (31.3 avg.), while on defense tallying 35 tackles, including one for loss, to go along with an interception and three pass deflections … Had a season-high seven tackles in a win over El Toro High … His interception came in a season-opening loss to La Serna … As a 2014 sophomore, played in all 11 games, recording 38 tackles and team-highs of four interceptions and ten pass deflections … Best overall game came in a victory over Bonita Vista in which he led the Titans to a 45-20 victory with three tackles, two pass deflections, a fumble recovery, and an interception that he returned 65 yards for a TD … Recorded a season-high eight tackles (seven solo) in a narrow loss to Cathedral Catholic … Lettered one season in varsity basketball at Eastlake, averaging 9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a junior, earning All-Metro Mesa Conference second-team recognition … Also lettered in basketball as a senior at Mission Hills High, helping the Grizzlies fashion a 22-9 record and advance to the third round of the CIF state playoffs. … Lettered in track & field as well, clocking a personal-best 11.84 in the 100 meters and 41’ 5” in the triple jump.
PERSONAL: Parents are Raul and Causha Olave … Has two brothers (Isiah, Chris) … Chris was a high school teammate of Josh in both football and basketball and is currently a true-freshman wide receiver at Ohio State … Majoring in business.
