Biography

THIS YEAR: Azusa Pacific's leading receiver from a year ago, senior Jon Miller is an outstanding player who is known for his acrobatic catches … Deceptively fast … What he lacks in size he makes up for in courage … Can go deep or just as easily make a catch over the middle … Also runs well in the open field and could be a returner on special teams. 

2003: Had a team-leading 34 receptions for 419 yards (12.3 avg.) and 2 TDs … Best game came in a victory at Gustavus Adolphus when he had a career-high 7 catches for 66 yards … Twice had 5 grabs in a game, including the NAIA playoff contest in the snow at Mary … Scored his first collegiate TD on a 16-yard pass play in the season-opening victory at San Diego … Came back the following week with a 10-yard TD score to give the Cougars' a 7-0 halftime lead in its eventual victory over NCAA Division III power Pacific Lutheran … Also had 4 tackles on special teams. 

2002: Returned to Azusa Pacific and had to play behind several quality receivers, but emerged from the crowd to play in all 9 games off the bench, making 5 receptions for 52 yards … Had 2 catches for 19 yards in the season-opener vs. San Diego … In the victory at Cal Lutheran, had a catch for 16 yards and a rush for 25 yards that set up an eventual field goal … Against Whittier, had his only kick returns of the season, taking 2 kickoffs back for a combined 73 yards, including a 44-yarder … Also returned a punt in that game for 4 yards. 

2000: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific. 

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Left Azusa Pacific and transferred to the College of the Redwoods, where he played his 2001 sophomore campaign as a wide receiver and punt returner … In 7 games, collected 6 receptions for 94 yards (15.7 avg.) with 1 TD, a 42-yarder vs. Diablo Valley CC … Returned 6 punts 69 yards (11.3 avg.). 

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 2-time team MVP and team captain at Skyview High in Vancouver, Wash., where he lettered for 2 seasons, playing for head coach Dave Armstrong … Played quarterback, wide receiver and corner back … Earned all-conference honors for the 5-5 Storm … Also lettered in 2 seasons in varsity basketball and 1 in track & field. 

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 14, 1982, in Vancouver, Wash., to Brian and Gail Miller … Has 2 brothers (Chad and Nathanael) and a sister (Katelyn) … Wants to teach and coach … Was recommended to Azusa Pacific by family friend and former Cougar basketball standout Rick Dillon.
