THIS YEAR: Now in his third-year in the program, senior John Sheriff works the Cougar frontline and provides good depth and experience.

2001: Got his Azusa Pacific experience as a 2001 junior, appearing in 3 games, all in reserve … Recorded 3 tackles, including 2 vs. Whittier in which he also tallied a tackle for loss.

2000: Was a member of the 2000 Cougar team but did not appear in any of the Cougars’ 10 games.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played the 1998 season as a linebacker at national power Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. … The Mounties were 14-0 and captured their first-ever national title.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 2 seasons of varsity football, spending his 1995 junior season at Bishop Amat High in La Puente, Calif., and his 1996 senior campaign at South Hills High in Covina, Calif. … At Bishop Amat, was a member of the Lancers’ 12-1-1 CIF championship team … Then transferred to South Hills where he earned All-Valley Vista League honors at linebacker as a member of the 12-1 Huskies who advanced to the CIF semis and won their first league title in 20 years.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 25, 1979, in Los Angeles, Calif., to John (detective) and Mary (principal) Sheriff … Has 1 sister (Kimberly) … Majoring in business administration … Would like to go into marketing.
