Biography

THIS YEAR: Senior John Gill returns for his third year with the Cougars, his second on the offensive line . . . One of the top players on the line . . . Has great size and strength and should teams with the other 4 returning starting linemen to give Azusa Pacific one of its best lines in school history . . . Noted as a hard worker and a tough player . . . Rated a good run-blocker.

1996: Started all 10 games at right tackle as a 1996 junior . . . Was a key reason the Cougars rushed for 2,099 yards, the most by an Azusa Pacific team since 1986.

1995: Played in the final 7 games of the season after missing the first 2 to clear eligibility . . . Recorded 12 tackles, including a season-high 4 vs. Cal Lutheran.

TRACK & FIELD: Competed on the 1996 Cougar track & field team . . . Posted season bests of 46-4 (shot put) and 126-0 (discus).

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played just his 1993 freshman season at San Bernardino (Calif.) Valley College as a defensive end . . . Was a part of an Indian team that posted an 11-1 record and ranked in the nation's top 5 . . . Missed the entire 1994 season with a severely sprained ankle suffered in a preseason scrimmage and therefore was granted a hardship.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Bloomington (Calif.) High from which he graduated in 1993 . . . Lettered 3 years on the varsity level, playing on both sides of the line . . . During his junior year, named All-Sunkist League second team as an offensive tackle . . . Missed a portion of his senior season with a knee injury . . . Lettered in track & field, winning league honors in the shot and discus.

PERSONAL: Born July 1, 1975, in San Bernardino, Calif. . . . Majoring in business . . . Cousin Jack Lucas pitched for the Houston Astros in the 1960s.
