THIS YEAR: Senior Joey Prestella has been a key player the past 3 seasons and should be again as he pushes for a starting berth ... A good athlete who is hard-nosed … Coming off a terrific spring workout. 

2003: Came off the bench in 9 games during his 2003 junior season, collecting 27 tackles, third-best among Cougar reserves (behind Thurner and McPeak) … Best showing came in a 42-0 Cougar victory over La Verne in which he recorded a career-high 8 tackles (4 solo) and forced a fumble … Also had 7 tackles in the win over Chapman. 

2002: Appeared in all 9 games, collecting 29 tackles (13 solo) … Finished the season strong with a combined 13 tackles in the victories over Chapman and Rocky Mountain … Had his most complete game at Chapman, tallying 6 tackles, including 1 for a 3-yard loss, to go along with a pass deflection and an interception that led to a TD. 2001: Appeared in 8 games, all in a reserve role, during his 2001 collegiate rookie season … Had 13 tackles, including 6 solo … Best outing came against Southern Oregon in which he tallied 5 tackles … Also had 4 takedowns against Whittier. 

2000: Attended Azusa Pacific and redshirted the season while working out with the team and playing defense for the first time in his career. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 seasons of varsity football for head coach Ted Clarke at San Dimas (Calif.) high ... As a 1999 senior, earned All-Valle Vista League first team recognition as an offensive lineman for the 10-3 Saints who advanced to the CIF semifinals ... Also served as team captain ... San Dimas posted an 18-6 record over his final 2 campaigns, which included the program's first CIF playoff berth during his 1998 junior season ... Also lettered 2 seasons in wrestling, earning All-CIF and Valle Vista League honors ... Served as ASB commissioner. 

PERSONAL: Born March 5, 1982, in Monrovia, Calif., to Jan Anthony (realtor) and Christina (teacher's aide) Prestella ... Has 2 sisters (Christina, Diana) and a brother (Tommy) ... Majoring in business with a minor in marketing ... Would like to be a marketing analyst ... Enjoys bass fishing.
