Biography

THIS YEAR: A testimony to perseverance and endurance, junior Jesse Tapsfield has had to overcome obstacles to be in the position he is today, a member of Azusa Pacific's deep and talented receiving corps … Is coming off a fine spring and is expected to see time behind the fleet-footed Nate Farris. 

2002: As a 2002 redshirt sophomore, appeared in 5 games, primarily on special teams, but did record his first collegiate reception, an 11-yard grab in the fourth quarter of the victory at Whittier. 

2001: Played sparingly on special teams during his freshman campaign. 

2000: Missed all of the 2000 season while recovering from torn knee ligaments suffered during spring drills. 

1999: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 seasons of varsity football at Seward High on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska … Led the Seahawks to the 1997 and 1998 Great Land Conference championship … Earned all-conference honors as a defensive end and wide receiver … Holds the school record for longest pass reception (77 yards) … Also lettered 4 years in baseball (third base), 2 years in basketball (forward) and ran track (sprints) as a senior, earning rookie of the year honors for the team while help setting the school record in the 4x100-meter relay. 

PERSONAL: Born July 5, 1981, in Fontana, Calif., to Marvin (teacher) and Nancy (retired teacher) Tapsfield … His twin brother, Wade, is also on the Cougar football team … Also has a sister (Jody) … Majoring in applied health … Would like to go into physical therapy
