Biography

THIS YEAR: Emerging as one of the finest linebackers in Azusa Pacific history, senior Jeremiah Beery returns to the line-up after sitting out the 2000 campaign … Has a nose for the ball ... Sheds blocks very well and hits hard … Rated a smart player with great instincts.

2000: Was a Football Gazaette second team preseason All-American but had to redshirt the season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken ankle first suffered in spring ball and then re-injured in fall camp.

1999: Put together a breakthrough season that garnered him NAIA All-American honorable mention … Started all 12 games and led the Cougars with 134 tackles, just 2 shy of Josh Henderson's 1996 school record … Had 10-or-more tackles in 7 games, including all 3 playoff contests when he averaged 16 takedowns a game … Collected a school-record 22 tackles (11 solo) vs. Southern Oregon, breaking Jeff Gustin's former standard of 20 set in 1988 … Had 19 tackles (12 solo) in the NAIA semifinal playoff game vs. Georgetown (Ky.) … Also had 9 tackles for loss, including 4 vs. No. 2-ranked Olivet Nazarene when he tallied 12 tackles for the game.

1998: Appeared in all 14 games, starting 1 ... Had 33 tackles which included 1 sack ... First collegiate start came in the NAIA quarterfinal vs. Central Washington and responded with a career-high 6 tackles (4 solo) and 1 fumble recovery which led to a TD and 28-7 Cougar lead at the time (Azusa Pacific won 35-28).

1997: Showed promise during his initial collegiate campaign, appearing in 5 games, primarily on special teams.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-sport captain at Mariposa (Calif.) High ... Lettered 3 years in varsity football ... As a 1994 sophomore and again as a 1996 senior played every down of every game at offensive guard and linebacker ... Was a 2-time team defensive MVP.

PERSONAL: Born Jan. 17, 1979, in Mariposa, Calif., to Mark and Pam Beery ... Has 1 brother (Jonathon) ... Physical education major ... Likes to fish.
