Biography

THIS YEAR: An outstanding player who has postseason honors capability, senior Jed Thurner returns to the starting line-up after playing behind All-American Anthony Diggs the past 2 seasons … Plays a unique position that acts as a down defensive lineman or an outside linebacker … A good athlete with great speed … Is an impact player who should be among team leaders in QB sacks. 

2003: Came off the bench in all 10 games to tally 40 tackles, sixth best on the team and tops among all Cougar reserves … Had a season-high 9 tackles (5 solo) in the victory at Rocky Mountain … Had 6 take-downs and a sack vs. Gustavus Adolphus … Had 4 sacks, 2 of which came against Humboldt State. 

2002: Appeared in all 9 games, starting 2, during his 2002 sophomore season … Tallied 19 tackles (7 solo), including 4 behind the line of scrimmage … Deflected 4 passes (third best on the team) … Had a terrific game in a win over Rocky Mountain, registering 4 tackles, which included 1.5 sacks, while recovering 1 fumble. 

2001: Started all 9 games, 1 of only 3 Cougar defenders to do so … Recorded 47 tackles (27 solo), tied for fourth on the team … Notched a career-high 11 tackles (7 solo) in a 21-16 come-from-behind victory at La Verne … Came on strong toward the season's end, collecting 24 tackles in the final 3 games, including 5 for loss and his lone sack of the season (vs. La Verne) … Spent time on special teams as the up-blocker, returning 4 kickoffs for 32 yards. 

2000: Redshirted the 2000 season while attending classes at Azusa Pacific. 

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2-sport standout at Kaahumanu High School in Maui, from which he graduated in 2000 … Earned 3 varsity letters in football and basketball and was named an all-star in both sports as a senior … In football, played safety, linebacker, tight end and wide receiver … As a senior, named team defensive MVP after leading Maui Interscholastic League in tackles … Also led the team in reception yardage … As a junior, averaged a team-high 15 tackles a game … Returned 2 fumbles for TDs (70 and 72 yards) … Also lettered a season in track & field … Graduated summa cum laude with a 3.8 GPA … Served as class secretary. 

PERSONAL: Born July 22, 1982, in Seattle, Wash., to Earl (pastor) and Jana Thurner … Has 2 brothers (Damien and Dylan) and 2 sisters (Jobyna and Ilima) … Communication major … Wants to go into some ministry after graduation … Member of the Teenage Republicans … Enjoys surfing
