Biography

THIS YEAR: After a completing a remarkable comeback, senior LB Jamen Wurm's finds himself vying for a starting spot at inside linebacker . . . Suffered severe head and internal injuries in a head-on automobile accident during the summer of 1995 . . . Has the tenacity and knowledge to be a very effective player.

1997: Came on strong toward the end of the season, playing in the final 9 games and starting the last 5 in a row . . . Made 27 tackles, thanks in part to back-to-back career-high 7-tackle games vs. Whittier and La Verne . . . Also had a forced fumble vs. Whittier.

1996: Made an extraordinary recovery to the point where he was cleared to play again . . . Played on a very limited basis and did not make a tackle during the season.

1995: Did not play while recovering from injuries, but amazingly returned to Azusa Pacific in the spring of 1996 and participated in spring football.

1994: As a 1994 freshman, walked-on to the Cougar team and made quite an impression . . . Came off the bench in all 9 games, tallying 31 tackles (11 solo), fifth best on the team . . . Had 7 tackles for loss and 1 fumble recovery . . . Had a season-high 7 tackles, including 3 behind the line of scrimmage, vs. San Diego.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Argonaut High in Jackson, Calif., located in the "Gold Country" southeast of Sacramento . . . Was an All-Mother Lode League pick as both a running back and linebacker during his 1992 junior and 1993 senior seasons . . . Led the team in tackles during his final 2 seasons . . . As a running back, averaged 6.8 yards a carry as a senior . . . Scored 4 TDs in a game during his senior season . . . Also lettered in baseball, earning All-Mother Lode League recognition as a senior, and basketball.

PERSONAL: Born Jan. 23, 1976, in Lodi, Calif. . . . Is 1 of 5 children . . . Majoring in accounting . . . Received $1,000 scholarship after being named the 1997 regional recipient of the NAIA's A.O. Duer Award which recognizes the outstanding academic work of NAIA student/athletes in their junior year.

JAMEN WURM ON: (the accident) "It's amazing no one died in this accident. I've realized the power of prayer. (on the recovery process) "Every time I started to feel sorry for myself in the hospital, I saw more tragedy in other patients. At least I was alive. I may have been like a little kid again, but I had the ability to fully recover.
