Biography

THIS YEAR: Fifth-year Cougar Eric McClenahan figures to open the season as the No. 2 signal-caller … Is an excellent back-up in that he is quite cerebral about the game and understands the Cougar system very well … Noted for his timing on passes … Extremely popular with his teammates and is considered one of the leaders despite his non-starting role. 

2003: Waged an intense battle with Sean Davis for the Cougars' vacant starting berth and was narrowly edged out … As a result, appeared in just 3 games, all off the bench, completing 4-of-10 passes for 45 yards … Replaced a struggling Davis at Humboldt State and completed 3-of-7 passes for 29 yards. 

2002: Battled for the Cougars' No. 2 quarterback spot during his 2002 sophomore campaign … Made just 1 game appearance, coming off the bench to start the second half at Whittier, completing 4-of-7 passes for 34 yards. 

2001: Appeared in 4 games as a redshirt freshman, completing 8 passes for 97 yards … Threw for 1 touchdown, a 4-yard strike against Southern Oregon, in the home season finale … Longest pass was a 27-yard toss, coming in the season opener at San Diego. 

2000: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at state power Loyola High in Los Angeles, playing for head coach Steve Grady … Played 2 seasons on the varsity level … As a 1999 senior earned a starting berth and completed 21 of his first 30 passes with 6 TDs and no interceptions before suffering a season-ending injury in the fourth game of the season vs. Crenshaw (the Cubs were 3-0 at the time) … As a 1998 junior, backed up All-CIF and league MVP Chris Peterson … Also lettered 3 seasons in varsity basketball, earning rookie of the year, Mr. Hustle and Mr. Assist awards along the way. 

PERSONAL: Born July 21, 1982, to Pat and Karren McClenahan in Las Vegas, Nev. … Has 1 sister (Kelly) … His dad is the station manager of KCBS TV2 and KCAL TV9 in Los Angeles … His grandfather, Jim Brown, was an All-American guard at UCLA, playing with Peter Shinnick's dad, Don … Also his uncle, Kevin Brown, was a QB at Cal-Berkeley from 1981 to 1985 … Plays the guitar … Has spent the parts of 2 summers building homes in Mexico.
