Biography

THIS YEAR: Only the third Cougar ever to have a shot at earning back-to-back All-America honors, senior Dexter Davis is an electrifying offensive force . . . Is coming off the finest season ever by a Cougar wide-out . . . Has great speed and is a terrific athlete . . . Hard-nosed and confident . . . Will be utilized on the Cougar special teams as well . . . Enters 1998 seventh on Azusa Pacific's all-time receiving chart and needs just 12 catches to become only the sixth Cougar ever to collect 100 receptions . . . Is currently ninth in all-purpose yards with 1,973 yards and needs 1,027 to become only the fourth Cougar ever to tally 3,000 all-purpose yards.

1997: Put together the finest season ever by a Cougar wide-out which resulted in NAIA All-American first team recognition (the higest honor ever for a Cougar receiver) . . . Tallied an Azusa Pacific single-season record 71 receptions for 1,012 yards to become Azusa Pacific's first-ever 1,000-yard receiver . . . Was second in the NAIA in receiving (7.9 avg./game) . . . Was the Cougars' leading scorer with 44 points . . . Scored at least 1 TD in each of the Cougars' first 5 games . . . Of his 7 TDs, 6 spanned 25 yards or more in length . . . An outstanding special teams player, averaged 28.4 yards over 18 kickoff returns, eighth best in the NAIA . . . Returned 2 kickoffs 97 (vs. CS Northridge) and 82 yards (vs. Occidental) for TDs . . . Returned 10 punts for 72 yards with a 26-yarder being his best effort . . . Caught a 23-yard TD strike from J.D. Fox with 1:43 left to play to lift Azusa Pacific to a 16-12 victory over Humboldt State (the Cougars' first win ever in Arcata) . . . Finished the season with a career-best game, catching 11 passes for 187 yards and 1 TD (43 yards) at Chapman . . . Had 10 catches for 143 yards and a 38-yard TD catch-and-run vs. Hardin-Simmons . . . Finished with a team-leading 1,604 all-purpose yards (178.2 avg./game).

1996: As a 1996 junior tried his hand at football for the first time since high school and earned a starting spot for all 10 games . . . Had 17 grabs for 279 yards (16.4 avg.) and 3 TDs, including a 62-yarder to open the second half and give the Cougars a 20-16 lead while on their way to a 40-22 victory over Cal Lutheran . . . Also had a 35-yard TD catch in a 35-22 win over Redlands . . . Rushed once on a 6-yard end-around that resulted in a TD vs. Chapman . . . Had a season-best 4 catches for 54 yards vs. Humboldt State . . . Joined the special teams late in the season and returned 4 kickoffs for 84 yards.

1995: Joined the Cougars late in the season after fall baseball was completed . . . Made brief appearances in 2 games but did not catch a pass.

BASEBALL: Originally recruited to play baseball at Azusa Pacific . . . lettered 2 years. . . As a 1997 senior, batted .355 in 46 games with a home run, 10 RBIs and 27 runs . . . Was 9-for-12 in stolen base attempts . . . As a 1996 junior was the starting center fielder for the GSAC champion Cougars . . . Batted .311 in 41 games . . . Was 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts . . . Cougars were 66-30 in Davis' 2 seasons.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 seasons of baseball at Long Beach (Calif.) City College but did not play football.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Jordan High School in Long Beach, Calif., from where he graduated in 1993 . . . Was a second team All-Moore League defensive back in 1992 . . . Played basketball, football, and baseball for 3 seasons.

PERSONAL: Majoring in physical education and wants to eventually coach . . . Born in Long Beach, Calif. on Nov. 25, 1975
