Biography

THIS YEAR: Senior tackle Dave Wilford anchors an outstanding set of starters on the Cougar offensive line ... Quite mobile for his size and uses terrific technique ... Could push for postseason honors ... Should be a primary figure in the establishment of a Cougar ground game while protecting a young QB ... Noted for his maturity. 

2002: Returned to football after a 2-year layoff ... Started all 9 games at left tackle ... Was a key reason the Cougars surrendered just 12 sacks in 9 games while allowing just 43 tackles behind the line of scrimmage ... Proved to be a quality lead blocker for a Cougar ground game that averaged 4.7 yards a carry. 

SANTA ANA: Played his 1999 sophomore season at Santa Ana (Calif.) College where he earned All-American, All-California and All-Mission Conference while leading the Dons to an 8-3 record and the conference title ... Was the primary blocker for Cameron King who set the school rushing record that season ... Signed with Colorado but did not attend. 

UCLA: Out of high school, signed with UCLA where he redshirted the 1997 season and was a teammate current Cougar coach Brian Willmer ... As a 1998 redshirt freshman, backed up eventual Outland Trophy winner Kris Farris ... Appeared in all 12 games, including the Rose Bowl vs. Wisconsin. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-year starter at Tustin (Calif.) High, blocking for current NFLer and former UCLA standout running back DeShaun Foster ... As a 1997 senior, earned All-CIF honors for the 11-2 Tillers ... Named all-county by the Orange County Register ... As a sophomore and junior, started at tight end before moving to tackle as a senior ... Lettered 2 years in golf and another in track & field (shot put). 

PERSONAL: Born June 13, 1979, in Long Beach, Calif., to Keith (lawyer) and Debbie Wilford ... Has 2 sisters (Lisa and Kimberly) ... Majoring in business ... In 1996 earned the prestigious Eagle Scout honor.
