THIS YEAR: Junior Dan Gray gives the Cougars a hard-running tailback who is effective in short-yardage situations ... Noted for his great work ethic and attitude.

2001: Appeared in 7 games as a redshirt sophomore, rushing for 133 yards on 37 carries … Was second on the team with 6 TDs … Registered a season-high 44 rushing yards on 9 carries with 1 TD in a 23-12 homecoming victory over Menlo … Notched his first-ever collegiate TD in a 31-12 home-opener victory over Whittier … Tallied 2 touchdowns in the last 4:18 of the Cougars’ 21-16 come-from-behind victory over La Verne.

2000: Appeared in 8 of the Cougars’ 10 games during his 2000 freshman campaign … Rushed for a season-high 28 yards on 6 carries, including a career-best 11-yard run, in the Cougars’ 56-30 victory over Redlands … Also had 4 tackles (2 solo) in special teams play.

1999: Redshirted his first year at Azusa Pacific.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 seasons of varsity football in the double-wing system of Dan Berry at Lone Pine (Calif.) High … As a 1998 senior rushed for a school-record 2,330 yards and 25 TDs on 232 carries (10.0 avg.) … Led the Golden Eagles to a 10-2 record and a second-round CIF appearance … Had 4 300-yard games, including a career-best 370 vs. Lucerne Valley … Named All-CIF and All-Desert Mountain League first team … Started his prep career as a defensive end and was a key figure in turning the program’s fortunes around (1-9 in 1997 to 10-2 in 1998) when he became a tailback late in his 1997 junior season … Rushed for 2,890 yards in 2 seasons … On defense was a 2-time all-league first team pick … Collected over 280 tackles in 3 seasons, including more than 100 in 10 games in 1997 … Also lettered 3 years in track and was the Desert Mountain League champion in the 100 meters (11.07) as a senior.
