Biography

THIS YEAR: The athletic D.J. Williams gives the Cougars depth and experience at wide receiver . . . Figures to fill a back-up role but should see plenty of time on the field, both as a receiver and as the punter . . . Has better-than-average hands and runs good routes . . . May also be utilized as the Cougar punter for the first time in his collegiate career.

1996: Filled a reserve role as a 1996 junior and appeared in just 3 games at wide receiver . . . Did not have a reception . . . Returned 1 kickoff for 11 yards vs. Menlo.

1995: Played in 6 games as 1995 sophomore, starting 1 . . . Caught 7 passes for 103 yards (14.7 avg., second best on the team) and 2 TDs . . . Returned 7 kickoffs for 112 yards (16.0 avg.) . . . Nabbed a career-high 5 passes for 89 yards and a TD at La Verne . . . Longest catch covered 45 yards (at La Verne).

1994: As a freshman, appeared in 8 games in which he started 4 . . . Caught 12 passes for 204 yards and 3 TDs with a long reception of 62 yards . . . Tied Jeff Atherton for most TD receptions on team . . . Had 2 receptions for 71 yards, including a 62 yarder vs. Chapman and scored on both catches . . . Also rushed twice for 21 yards.

TRACK & FIELD: As a freshman, posted season bests of 11.74 (100 meters), 23.66 (200 meters) and 52.93 (400 meters) as a member of Azusa Pacific's national championship track & field program . . . Did not compete on the team as a sophomore. HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Covina (Calif.) High and lettered in baseball, basketball, track and football . . . In football, received Coaches Award as a sophomore. As a junior, named to Hall of Fame East vs. West game where he played tight end, outside linebacker, and punter . . . As a 1992 senior, named San Gabriel Valley Tribune All-Valley honorable mention, All-Valle Vista League first team, and Covina High Offensive Player of the Year . . . Ran back a 100-yard kickoff for a TD against CIF champion Valencia High . . . Coached in track by former Cougar All-American Ted Campbell.

PERSONAL: Born June 25, 1975, in San Dimas, Calif. to Dave and Brenda Williams . . . His father was a kicker and safety at Azusa Pacific in 1973.
