Lavell Thomas enters his first season on the Cougar coaching staff, where he will serve as a graduate assistant on the defensive side of the ball, while also handling video coordinating duties. While he will be in his first season as a coach for the Cougars, he is no stranger to Azusa Pacific football.
Thomas spent three seasons as a defensive back for the Cougars (2016-18), and was an All-GNAC Second Team selection as a junior in 2017. Over his career, he recorded 92 tackles, 11 pass breakups, six interceptions, and four forced fumbles. Academically, Thomas earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies.
Prior to Azusa Pacific, Thomas played two seasons at Riverside Community College.
Originally from Riverside, Calif., Thomas attended Arlington High School, where he played two seasons of varsity football. During his varsity career with the Lions, he recorded 10 interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. Offensively, he scored 13 touchdowns, including three touchdowns receptions on seven catches as a senior.
