Biography

THIS YEAR: A bruising back, senior Adam Shelly is a valuable short-yardage and blocking back, who will appear when Azusa Pacific uses an I-formation backfield ... Has a nose for the end zone … Been tackled behind the line of scrimmage just twice in his career, both in his freshman season.

2000: Appeared in 9 games, all in reserve, as a 2000 junior … Used primarily as a blocking back, rushed for 24 yards on 11 carries and scored 1 TD, a 1-yard plunge in the Cougars' 35-32 victory over Humboldt State … Also had his lone reception of the season, a 7-yard grab.

1999: Appeared in all 12 games, starting 1, and rushed for 9 yards on just 3 carries … Lone reception of the season was a 2-yard TD catch with 4 minutes to play for what proved to be the game-winning TD in Azusa Pacific's 38-35 victory over previously undefeated and No. 3-ranked Hastings College in the quarterfinals of the NAIA playoffs … Also returned 2 kickoffs for 24 yards. 

1998: Came on strong late in his 1998 freshman season ... Appeared in all 14 games, starting 2 ... Rushed for 103 yards on 44 carries, but tallied 91 of those yards in the final 5 games of the season ... Scored 6 TDs, including 5 in the playoffs ... Rushed for 3 TDs in the quarterfinal win over Central Washington when he had a career-high 31 yards on 10 carries ... In the NAIA semifinal victory over Huron, converted a crucial third-and-one on the Cougars' game-winning drive ... Also filled a role as a blocking back on special teams and returned 2 kickoffs for 25 yards.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 2-way player at Santa Fe Christian High in Solana Beach, Calif., where he played on both lines as well as fullback ... As a 1997 senior rushed for 1,768 yards and 22 TDs in 10 games and was the top rusher in San Diego County (13th in the state) ... Named Coastal League Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to a 7-2-1 record ... Was a 2-time All-CIF San Diego Section honoree. 

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 12, 1979, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ... Majoring in business.
