2017 (offseason) : Backman paired with teammate Dillon Barnard beat Hugo Colpart and Alexandre Vinee-Munoz of Holy Names 8-4 in the opening round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Regional doubles championship

2017 (junior): Went 3-2 in singles seeing most of his singles success at the No. 6 position. He went 3-5 in double paired mainly with Roberto Luconi this season, Backman notched his three double wins partnered with Luconi. 

2016 (sophomore): As a sophomore scored a win for Cougars at No. 5 position against Andres Rivas (Hope International)… Made an important contribution to team’s win, dominating in an unfinished singles, match against Connecticut University… Paired up with Sasha Kingsley to post an 8-5 doubles win at second spot against Colorado Christian

2015 (offseason): In the USTA/ITA Fall West Region Small College tournament singles consolation draw, defeated Sullivan Roche from Sonoma State... Lost to eventual back draw champion C.J. Erion... Paired with Roberto Luconi in doubles and defeated a pairing from Sonoma State 8-6.

2015 (freshman): Won four of five singles matches, ending the season on a four-match winning streak... Recorded one win at No. 5 singles, defeating Patrick Johnson from Holy Names 7-5, 6-3... Defeated Point Loma's Grant Alston 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 and Concordia's Man Hon Ko 6-1, 0-6, 10-6.

PERSONAL: Born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 16, 1996 to Steven (GM of Silver Creek Valley Country Club) and Patricia Backman... Has a younger sister named Emily... Majoring in applied exercise science... Enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee and Spikeball
