THIS YEAR: One of the top scorers in the GSAC as a true freshman last season, sophomore transfer Jason Van Broekhuizen transfers to Azusa Pacific from GSAC-rival California Baptist … Will start immediately in the central midfield for the Cougars … Rated a very hard worker with a solid work rate as well as a good 2-way player … Has the ability to score points in bunches … Is a consistent player, scoring points in 12 of the Lancers’ 16 games … Extremely intellectual player, reads the field well … Will pull the strings from the midfield.

CAL BAPTIST: Played his freshman campaign at GSAC-rival California Baptist, where he led the Lancers to their best season in school history (12-4 overall, 6-4 GSAC) … Led the Lancers and was fifth in the GSAC in goals (10) … Was seventh in the GSAC and second among freshmen in scoring with 25 points … Scored a goal or had an assist in each of the Lancers’ first 9 games … Named GSAC and NAIA Region II Player of the Week Sept. 10 when he scored 2 goals in a 3-0 win over CS Hayward, then added 2 assists as the Lancers upset CS San Bernardino, 2-0 … Scored the Lancers’ lone goal in a 3-1 loss to vs. GSAC co-champion Azusa Pacific.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 4 years of varsity soccer at Norco (Calif.) High where he was a 4-time All-Mountain View League pick ... Was a 3-time All-CIF honoree, earning first team honors as a 2000-01 senior … Led the Cougars to a 74-18-12 mark and 4 Mountain View League championships in his 4 seasons, scoring 134 goals … Led the Cougars to consecutive CIF quarterfinal appearances as a 2000 junior and 2001 senior … Was the Cougars’ top goal scorer in his final 3 seasons … Also played 2 seasons of volleyball, earning All-Mountain View League honors twice.
