Biography

THIS YEAR:  Junior Julian Cottrell adapted quite nicely last year after transferring from NCAA Division II Seattle (Wash.) … Split time with Morgan Cathey last season and could do so again this year … Is a strong leader, commanding respect from his teammates … Is a physical and imposing presence … Big, strong and a good athlete … Works very hard … Smart and agile and can distribute the ball well. 

2003:  Appeared in 10 games, starting 9 while splitting time with Cathey as a 2003 sophomore … Allowed just 7 goals in 810 minutes for a 0.78 GAA … Collected 7 wins and 4 shutouts … Made 33 saves … Was in net for the Cougars’ 4-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur … Made 4 saves in the Cougars’ 2-1 win over No. 9-ranked Simon Fraser (B.C.).  

SEATTLE:  Appeared in 6 games in 2002, all in a reserve role as a redshirt freshman for the 11-6-2 Redhawks … Allowed 3 goals in 184 minutes of action (1.47 GAA) and collected 3 saves … Worked back-to-back scoreless second halves in consecutive wins over Northwest Nazarene (Idaho) and Humboldt State. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Prepped 4 varsity seasons at Skyline High in Sammamish, Wash., for head coach Don Braman … Was a 3-time All-King County 3A first team selection … Named  all-state as a 2001 senior after setting a Skyline record with 7 shutouts, fashioning a 0.85 GAA and leading the Spartans to their first-ever league title and a third place finish in the state tournament … Named All-King County second team as a freshman during Skyline’s first year of varsity competition after collecting a state-record 42 saves in one game.

PERSONAL:  Born Sept. 26, 1982, in South Carolina, to Terry and Sue Cottrell … Has 2 sisters (Qiana and Ciara) … Majoring in business with an emphasis in finance and minor in economics … Would like to be a financial consultant … Enjoys weightlifting, fishing, and boogie boarding
