THIS YEAR: Senior Holly Downard enters her third year in the program ... Making adjustment to be a slap hitter to take advantage of her left-handed bat.

2002: Appeared in 33 of Azusa's 53 games ... Went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs in the Cougars' 3-2 victory over Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Sunwest Tournament in Orange, Calif. ... Came off the bench during the NAIA regional playoffs to go 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the Cougars' 4-2 victory over Concordia.

2001: In her first year at Azusa Pacific, appeared in 24 games, primarily as a pinch runner or late-inning defense replacement ... Did not have a hit in 9 at-bats, but did score 8 runs and provided 3 sacrifice hits ... Scored the game winning run in Azusa Pacific's victory over national power Cal State Bakersfield.

LIBERTY: Appeared in 30 games, starting once for coach Paul Wetmore at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. ... Went 1-for-7 with a walk, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored for the Flames, who went 9-1 in Big South Conference play.

HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered 4 years in softball and 1 year each in soccer, volleyball and basketball at Desert Christian High School in Tucson, Ariz., from which she graduated in 1998 ... Led the Eagles to 2 state championships ... Named team MVP her senior season after hitting .575 with 41 RBIs and 31 stolen bases ... Named all-state first team her junior and senior years and was All-League all 4 years.

PERSONAL: Born Nov. 28, 1980, in Maryland to Gary (police officer) and Deanna (flight attendant) Downward ... Has 2 sisters (Liberty and Brittany) ... Majoring in political science with a pre-law emphasis ... Would like to be a criminal prosecutor ... Enjoys art, water-skiing, snow skiing and snowboarding.
