THIS YEAR: A returnee to the Cougar infield, senior shortstop Alanna Jeffrey will battle for her starting berth ... Gives the Cougars depth and experience on the infield ... Will miss the first month of the season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery ... Has good hands and a strong arm ... A vocal leader.

2001: Appeared in 46 of the Cougars' 58 games, starting 40 ... Committed just 8 errors in 168 chances at short ... Struggled at the plate most of the season but did bat .250 over the final 14 games ... Best offensive showing came in a 2-for-3 effort with a double vs. Hope International ... Was 2-for-4 in a GSAC win over The Master's.

MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE: A 2-time All-South Conference second team infielder ... Named best defensive player her freshman season ... Batted .271 and was voted team MVP her 2000 sophomore year.

HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered 3 years in softball, 4 years in soccer and 2 years in volleyball at Northview High School in Covina, Calif., from which she graduated in 1998 ... Named All-Valle Vista League second team in softball her senior year ... Earned 3 Viking of the Year awards and was named first team All-Valle Vista League as a goalie in soccer.

PERSONAL: Born March 5, 1980, in San Dimas, Calif., to Albert (sales rep) and Rosanna (administrative assistant) Jeffrey ... Has 3 brothers (Ron, Keith and Todd) and a sister (Vicki) ... Enjoys collecting frogs ... A liberal studies major, would like to be an elementary school teacher.
