Biography

1998: A two time All-GSAC performer, senior Kelly Hibma provides consistency and stability both at shortstop and at the plate . . . A great contact hitter who hits for average . . . Can bat and produce anywhere in the line-up . . . Enjoys playing and working at the game . . . Terrific arm from shortstop where she is a lock to start.

LEHMAN’S LYRIC: "Kelly has worked hard in the offseason on her range, improving her already solid skills at short. She is the best at her position in the conference and is a solid leader by example. She is working on her vocal skills but is very solid and consistent during the entire season."

1997: Voted All-GSAC for the second straight season as a 1997 junior which saw her start all 63 games at shortstop, a new season record . . . Hit .286 (58-for-203), with 35 RBIs . . . Clubbed 2 home runs, 1 each vs. Claremont and Pacific Christian . . . Struck out just 8 times in 203 at-bats, third fewest on the team . . . Led the team in assists from her shortstop position with 174 . . . Had 17 multiple-hit games, including 6 contests with 3 hits . . . Strung together a 6-game hitting streak during April, going 9-for-17 during 6 straight GSAC victories . . . Exploded for 3 hits and 4 RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader vs. Pacific Christian.

1996: Earned All-GSAC first-team honors as a 1996 sophomore . . . Tied with Castaneda for the lead in team batting at a .381 (72-for 189) clip . . . Was second on the club with 36 RBIs . . . Outstanding defensively as well, with a 93 put-outs and a team-high 155 assists . . . Had 22 multiple-hit games, second best on the team . . . Went 35-for 67 (.522), including 14 RBIs, 4 doubles, and 2 triples during a 19-game hitting streak in March and April . . . Struck out only 8 times in 189 at-bats . . . Was second on the team with 4 triples . . .Went 4-for-7 with 3 RBIs in a doubleheader vs. Cal Baptist . . . Named MVP of the UCSD tournament.

1995: Played in 39 games, starting 38 including the final 12 in a row when she wrestled the everyday starting position away from Hendry . . . Batted .292 (33-for-133) overall with 13 RBIs, 4 doubles and a triple . . . Put together a 5-game hitting streak in which she was 11-for-16 (.688) with 6 RBIs and 5 runs . . . As a result, was named GSAC Player of the Week after leading the Cougars to the championship game of the UCSD Tourney . . . Was 5-for-7 with 4 runs in the Cougars’ regular season-ending sweep of Cal Baptist . . . Stroked a 1-out sacrifice fly to give the Cougars an 8-inning 4-3 victory over Southern Cal College . . . Committed a team-high 21 errors but only 2 in the final 8 games of the season . . . A good contact hitter, striking out just 4 times in 117 plate appearances.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN HIGH: Was a 4-time All-Olympic League selection at Valley Christian High in Cerritos, Calif., including first team recognition her last 3 years . . . Was also a 2-time All-CIF honoree, winning first team honors as a 1994 senior after leading Valley to the CIF championship . . . Was a 3-time all-league pick in basketball and a member of Valley's 3 CIF championship teams . . . Won all-league honors in volleyball 1 season as well.

PERSONAL: Born Aug. 29, 1976, in Long Beach, Calif., to Brian and Judi Hibma. . . Enjoys reading and listening to music . . . Majoring in liberal studies, with a Spanish minor at Azusa Pacific . . . Wants to teach second or third graders following graduation.
