SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Azusa Pacific dropped both ends of a Wednesday doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino, falling 10–4 in game one and 8–1 in game two at CSUSB Softball Park.
The Cougars showed early offensive flashes in the opener but were unable to sustain momentum as the Coyotes used late inning surges in both games to secure the sweep.
Game One – Cal State San Bernardino 10, Azusa Pacific 4
Azusa Pacific came out swinging in the opener, building a 4–0 lead through the first three innings.
Julia Doan sparked the offense with a leadoff triple in the first inning and later scored on an RBI groundout from Hannah Tipton. The Cougars broke the game open in the third when Tipton launched a two run home run, followed by a solo shot from Alexus Corona to extend the lead to 4–0.
CSUSB began to chip away in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on a combination of doubles and RBI singles to cut the deficit to one.
The game turned in the sixth.
Cal State San Bernardino erupted for seven runs in the inning, capitalizing on timely hits and defensive miscues to flip the game and take a commanding 10–4 lead. The Cougars were unable to respond offensively over the final innings as CSUSB closed out the comeback victory.
Tipton led APU with three RBIs, while Corona added a home run and Bella Fraser recorded two hits in the loss.
Game Two – Cal State San Bernardino 8, Azusa Pacific 1
The nightcap followed a similar script, with CSUSB jumping out early and controlling the game throughout.
The Coyotes struck for two runs in the first inning on a pair of home runs, then added two more in the fourth to build a 4–0 lead. Azusa Pacific struggled to generate offense against CSUSB starter Mo Cash, who limited the Cougars to just two hits across the game.
APU broke through in the sixth inning when Abi Milton delivered a solo home run to center field, putting the Cougars on the board.
However, CSUSB answered immediately in the bottom half with four more runs, highlighted by a three run home run from Katie Griego, to extend the lead to 8–1 and put the game out of reach.
Milton accounted for the Cougars' lone run, while Jocelyn Guzman added the other hit in the contest.
