GLENDORA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific dropped a 19-10 conference contest to Pacific on Friday evening at the Citrus Aquatic Center.
Pacific opened with a strong first quarter, scoring five times to take a 5-1 lead after one. Montana George put Azusa Pacific on the board with an early goal, but the Tigers answered with a mix of even-strength and G-E finishes to build momentum.
The Cougars responded in the second period with three goals. Kohia Rego converted on a G-E opportunity off an assist from George, while Jessie Nelson and Kori Cunningham each added even-strength goals to cut into the deficit. Despite the push, Pacific capitalized on power-play chances and G-P opportunities to carry an 11-4 advantage into halftime.
Pacific extended the lead in the third, but Azusa Pacific continued to compete offensively. Audrey Dexter scored off a feed from Jaeden Johnson, and Nelson added her second goal of the match. The Tigers maintained control, taking a 16-6 lead into the final frame.
Azusa Pacific made its strongest push in the fourth, scoring four times. Johnson netted two goals in the period, Bailey Hollick found the back of the cage, and Cunningham added her second of the night. However, Pacific answered down the stretch to secure the 19–10 final.
Nelson and Johnson led the Cougars with two goals apiece, while Cunningham also finished with two. Dexter, Rego, Hollick and George each contributed a goal. Azusa Pacific totaled 23 shots and drew multiple exclusions, converting once on the power play.
In goal, Daniela Herrero Miralles recorded nine saves in 32 minutes of action as the Cougars moved to 11–6 overall and 0–2 in conference play.
