No. 11 APU Silences Sagehens

Cougars sweep doubles and secure four singles wins to earn road victory at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

CLAREMONT, Calif. — No. 11 Azusa Pacific men's tennis picked up a strong 5–2 road win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday morning at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The Cougars (4–3) set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point. The No. 1 duo of Soeren Grandke and Mathys Pinoit edged Drew Goldman and Jay Mallampati 7–6 in a tightly contested match. At No. 2, David James Brownlee and Viktor Craenenbroeck matched that 7–6 scoreline, while Joan Crespo and Christopher Marci secured a 6–4 victory at No. 3.

Despite dropping the top singles court, Azusa Pacific controlled the remainder of the lineup.

David James Brownlee delivered a commanding 6–2, 6–2 win at No. 2 singles, while Mathys Pinoit rallied after dropping the first set to win in three (2–6, 6–3, 6–3) at No. 3. Joan Crespo added another straight-set victory at No. 5, 6–3, 6–2, and Leo Weishaupt clinched the match at No. 6 with a comeback three-set win, 4–6, 6–2, 6–4.

Pomona-Pitzer (2–2) earned its two points at Nos. 1 and 4 singles, as Drew Goldman defeated Grandke in straight sets at the top of the lineup and Leo Rocca pulled out a three-set battle at No. 4.
