SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Azusa Pacific couldn't erase an early hole in its second conference meeting with Point Loma, falling 80-55 on the road Saturday afternoon at Golden Gymnasium.
The Sea Lions came out sharp on both ends and built separation quickly, holding the Cougars to 12 points in the opening quarter to take a 20-12 lead. Point Loma kept its foot on the gas in the second period, outscoring APU 23-10 and stretching the margin to 43-22 at halftime after forcing turnovers and consistently converting in transition.
APU's offense continued to stall coming out of the locker room, as the Sea Lions opened the third quarter with another surge and pushed its advantage to 67-33 heading into the fourth. The Cougars showed fight in the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Sea Lions 22-13 in the fourth quarter, but there was too much ground to make up.
